How to make a Hot Toddy and cure your cold fast

How to make a Hot Toddy and cure your cold fast

You will learn an age old recipe on how to cure the common cold.

Things You'll Need:

1 Large Mug 2 Cups Boiling Water 1 Heaping tablespoon of Honey Juice of one lemon Вј cup good whiskey

1

You will learn how to make a Hot Toddy.
Ok, here's the deal. At the first sign of a cold if you follow this simple process your cold will be gone within 24 hours (48 hours if you're over 50).

You know when you're coming down with something. For most of us, it's hard to tell the boss, "I'm coming down with something and I am going home to take care of myself". Most of us wait until we're well into the symptoms so the boss "knows" we're sick. Okay, so that's where we are with this remedy, whops, I mean process.

Go home, get everyone fed, homework's complete, dishes done, tomorrow's lunches made (yeah right), etc.

1. Boil 2 cups of water (if you can't find a tea kettle, find a pot, put water in, put on stove, turn that little knob to high, when little bubbles start appearing on the surface, it's almost ready, when big bubbles appear, we in the industry call it a rolling boil, you're ready to continue).

2. Find your biggest coffee mug, pour about ВЅ cup of boiling water into the mug and then dump it out (this is called "heating the mug").

3. Take a heaping tablespoon (if you can't find the tablespoon, use a soup spoon, that's the one that's a little bigger than a teaspoon-also, there's three teaspoons in a tablespoon, so that should help) of honey (not sugar please-I'll tell you why in a second, don't want to disturb the process) and put it in the hot mug.

4. Squeeze juice of one lemon (lemon is alkaline to the system unless it is mixed with sugar and then it turns acidic and you'll get a stomach ache) and pour it over the honey that's already melting in the hot mug.

5. Add a shot (don't use one of those little shot glasses that your grandparents used, use a good Вј cup) (if you can't find a measuring cup, there are 4 tablespoons in a Вј cup, and you already know about tablespoons because we covered that in #3) of good whiskey (you can use brandy if you must, but it's not authentic) over the now warm honey and freshly squeezed lemon.

6. Add the remaining boiled water to your mixture to fill mug. (throw out the remaining water, don't let the mug overflow).

2

7. Now, the important part. Put spoon in mug and stir as you are walking to your bed holding the mug under your nose and inhaling the vapors. Hopefully, you have already turned on the electric blanket and are in your jammies. Sit by edge of bed, continue stirring the mixture and inhaling the vapors. Sip, but don't burn your tongue. Keep sipping until cool enough to throw down the remainder. Turn out the light, get under the covers and go to sleep. Do not, repeat, do not, go out after drinking this concoction.

3

You may wake up in the middle of the night in a full sweat....this is a good sign, the impurities are exiting the body. Don't get up and change, remain in your little sauna and go back to sleep. A little wet nighty and sheets are not going to kill you.

Okay, I've made a little joke here, but believe me, this remedy, following the process of course, does work for many people. It was handed down to me by my dearly departed Italian Father, however, my dearly departed Yugoslavian Mother would beg to differ. Many family fights about this. Anyway, works for me ... hope it works for you.

Tips & Warnings

How to Make a Homemade Gong

How to Make a Homemade Gong

A gong is a decorative Chinese musical instrument. Traditional suspended gongs are often made of bronze and are used in ceremonies, and in modern meditation therapies. A gong is beat with a covered mallet or stick to soften the sound, and the larger the gong the softer the mallet must be. With a few materials and a couple of minutes, you can make a homemade gong of your own.

Things You'll Need:

Metal pie tin

Drill

Craft paint

Paintbrushes

Black cord

Large metal or wooden spoon

Old rags

Tape or string

1

Clean the pie plate you plan to use for your gong. You can use any flat, round, metal object that you like. Large metal lids from popcorn tins work well, as do decorative metal plates or platters. As long as it is flat and relatively round it will work.

2

Drill two holes in the sides of your gong. You want to drill one hole on each side about 1/3 of the way from the top of the plate, and 1-2 inches from the edge. This will provide you with a way to hang your gong up later on.

3

Thread a piece of black cord or string through one hole, around the back of the gong, and through the hole on the other side. Pull the cord or string until you have two equal pieces that are about 1-2 feet in length above the gong, and cut them. Tie the two ends of the cord or string together to form a knot.

4

Cover a large metal or wooden spoon with an old rag, and secure it with tape or string so that it won't slip off. This will make the mallet that you can hit your gong with. If you have a very large gong, then you may need to add an extra rag or two to your spoon to soften the sound of the gong.

5

Hang your gong up by the string you tied to it, and enjoy playing it with your homemade mallet. Visit the resource below for more information on gongs.

Tips & Warnings

Paint and decorate the gong. If the metal object that you are using for a gong has graphics on it or if you just want to add a personal touch, you can paint your gong with a variety of different colors or designs.

Use a cord or string that is strong enough to support the weight of the gong.

Take precautions when using a power tool such as a drill.

How to make a Home Remedy Tea for Indigestion

How to make a Home Remedy Tea for Indigestion

A home remedy for indigestion I have used is a tea made from the roots of Devil's Claw. As it is slightly bitter, I drink it down in one rapid sitting. It has proved to be effective yet I have often wondered if that isn't only my digestive system's reaction to the bitterness and its reluctance to repeat the remedy.

Things You'll Need:

1. The root or tuber of the Devil's Claw.

2. Tea Kettle or pot for boiling water.

3. Measuring utensils

1

Bring 2 cups of water to a rapid boil.

2

Steep 1 tsp of chopped or powdered dry root in it for 20 minutes.

3

Strain and cool.

Tips & Warnings

1. Get it swallowed as fast as possible.

2. Devil's claw can, also, be found as dried, powdered or fresh root supplements in health food stores.

3. Better use bottled water.

1. The high mineral content of many area's tap water does NOTHING to enhance the taste of the tea. (Shudder)

How to Make a Home Remedy for a Kidney Infection

How to Make a Home Remedy for a Kidney Infection

Kidney infections are very painful and best treated by a doctor. But if you can't get in to see a doctor right away, there are a few things you can do to feel better while you wait. Learn to treat your kidney infection with a home remedy and get a little relief while you patiently await your appointment.

1

Drink a lot of cranberry juice. Cranberry juice makes your urine more acidic, which limits bacteria growth because of the highly acidic environment. Drink at least 16 ounces a day for the desired effect. Ensure that it is 100 percent cranberry juice and not the "cocktail" variety. Fruit cocktails are full of sugar and lack the appropriate concentration of cranberry juice. If cranberry juice in unavailable, take cranberry capsules purchased from your local health store to ease the effects of the kidney infection.

2

Drink more water than usual to urinate more frequently. During a kidney infection, you need to urinate more often. Each time you urinate the bladder cleanses itself. Frequent urination removes more bacteria and helps heal the infection.

3

Try herbal therapy. While you wait for the standard course of antibiotics that your doctor prescribes, try an herbal treatment. Bearberry capsules have shown to have some results when it comes to treating kidney infections and are available at health stores. Help the bearberry work by maintaining a diet full of milk, vegetables and fruit juice.

4

Give aromatherapy a try. Get relief from the pain of your kidney infection through the use of essential oils. Aromatherapist Judith Jackson suggests soaking in a hot bath of eucalyptus and sandalwood. Add 20 drops of each essential oil and soak in the hot bath for at least 10 minutes. Substitute thyme and juniper oil if you enjoy those scents more.

Tips & Warnings

If you suspect a kidney infection, always seek the help of a medical professional. Kidney infections are very serious and can have severe complications that lead to hospitalization.

How to Make a Herbal Infusion From Seeds and Flowers

How to Make a Herbal Infusion From Seeds and Flowers

Fresh seeds and herbs can form potent natural healing teas and infusions. The difference between a tea and an infusion is the strength and method of preparation. An infusion is generally used 2 to 3 times a day.

Things You'll Need:

1 quart glass Mason jar

Mortar and pestle

Clay pot

Seeds or flowers of the herbs

1

Select the herbs that will work the best for your problem. Consulting folk medicine books, websites and natural remedy books is a great place to find which herbs apply to the problem you are having.

2

Place 1 tspn. of the seeds and/or flowers to be used in a mortar and crush with the pestle until they have been pulverized. Add a small amount of warm water to remove the flowers or seeds from the mortar and place them in a 1-quart Mason jar.

3

Boil spring water in a clay pot and pour into the Mason jar. Seal the lid tightly and allow to infuse for at least a few hours. For infusions made from seeds do not infuse for more than 4 hours or the infusion may turn bitter.

How to Make a Herbal Infusion From Roots and Barks

How to Make a Herbal Infusion From Roots and Barks

Folk medicine has long used herbs found in the countryside or grown in the garden to treat various maladies. Herbalists use herbs, leaves, stems, bark and roots to treat various conditions.

Things You'll Need:

1-quart glass jar

Mortar and pestle

1

Sterilize a 1-quart glass Mason jar with lid. Wash the jar and then rinse it in boiling water and allow to air dry until cool. Keeping the jar sterile until use will prevent any unwanted contaminants from finding their way into the herbal infusion.

2

Take the bark or root of the herb that will form the infusion and place it in a mortar. Grind it into a powder with the pestle. The larger the surface area of the herb, the greater the transfer of important compounds will be into the water.

3

Pour the powdered herb, then pour boiling water into the Mason jar to the rim. Firmly seal the lid on the jar. The temperature and pressure that will build inside the jar will pull the compounds out of the root or bark powder.

4

Allow the jar to cool and drink one cup of the mixture 2 to 3 times a day. Do not keep the infusion overnight. It is best to make the infusion fresh daily to maintain the potency of the remedy.

How to Make A Herbal Burn Ointment

How to Make A Herbal Burn Ointment

Here is a quick recipe for a herb burn ointment that you can make up in advance and keep in the fridge until needed.

Things You'll Need:

1 handful of fresh or dried Comfrey

2 cups Almond or Jojoba Oil

1

Obtain the Comfrey leaves and Oil. You can get fresh Comfrey by gathering in a garden or wild area where you have seen them growing. Otherwise, dried Comfrey is available in most health food stores and growers co-ops. If you are near a herbalist, they will also have fresh Comfrey. It's a medical wonder!

2

Bring Oil to a light boil in a saucepan over medium/low heat. Add Comfrey leaves. Allow to boil for 1 minute and then remove from heat. Cover and allow to infuse for 30 minutes, until cool.

3

Strain the oil carefully over a colander or sieve, being sure to remove all of the Comfrey leaves. This is hard to strain through cheesecloth or a coffee filter but the Comfrey leaves can be small so you may have to use a very small, tight sieve and wait a while as it filters.

4

When the oil is greenish and clear, it is ready. Store in any container of your choosing for future use. Store in the refrigerator for up to 6 months at a time. Apply cold oil to burns with a cotton swab or small cloth. Use as needed.

Tips & Warnings

If you use dried Comfrey, you should use about 1/2 cup of dried leaves in place of a handful of fresh.

If you want to make more burn oil, simply double or triple the herbs & oil proportionately.

There are no warnings or safety measures that apply. Comfrey is very safe.
